Martha Stewart watch out. There's another crafty gal on the block. Ok, maybe not the extreme talent of Martha but I am proud of the atrs & craft party I planned for Emma's 10th birthday.
Long story short..Emma has 2 favorite things. 1. Butter and 2. Bacon. The original theme she requested was a bacon and butter decorated party. Yes, very hard to come by. Well, we all know where bacon comes from and so that's why she was thrilled to come across the very adorable "The Pig" party decorations. Birthday Express had the complete package with plates, napkins. balloons, candles, you name it it was in the box. I have to admit it was more reasonable then hitting Party City. That left me more than enough time to focus on the "fun" stuff for the party.
Like all good crafters the fisrt trip was to Michael's with the theme in mind. Piglets! First off to the painting section where I found piggy banks for the girls to paint. Cute craft and party favor in one :) Then wooden wind chimes and photo clips to paint as well. Since there were outdoor activities planned, I thought decorating pink visors would be both fun and useful. Now of to the dollar bins and..JACKPOT! Little bars of soap in the shape of a cute piggy face, mini manicure sets, and pink bubble wands. Cute little party favors!
The night before the party I sure could have used my friend Nicole's mad cake decorating skills. My clever idea maybe wasn't so clever after all :) I decided to use fondant for the first time and have it look like a pig dove into a bow with just his rump and curly piggy tail sticking out. That part was fun and the girls sure did get a giggle from it. My fondant piggy face on the other hand should have been named "Chuckie" with his freaky eyes. Oh well, you can't win them all.
The day of the party had me thinking of kindergarden all over again. Just like setting up centers. Easy enough I thought as each place setting was ready for the crafts ahead. Each girl was equipped with 1 marker, 2 paint brushes, her own individual multi colored paint pots, along with gems and stickers for the visors.
